Ikigai Barbers FAQ

Precision Haircuts, Asian Styles & Grooming in Melbourne CBD

What happens if I'm running late?

If you're more than 10 minutes late, your appointment will be treated as a no-show and the full service price will be charged. If you think you'll be a few minutes behind, please contact us as soon as possible and we'll do our best to accommodate you.

What is your cancellation policy?

We ask for at least 12 hours' notice to cancel or reschedule at no charge. Cancellations with less than 12 hours' notice, no-shows, or arriving more than 10 minutes late will incur a charge of 100% of the service price. This policy exists to protect our barbers' time and ensure fair and timely access for all clients.

What makes Ikigai Barbers different from other barbershops?

We're one of Melbourne's top-rated and awarded barbershops — recognised across Fresha, the Oneshot Hair Awards, Hair Festival, and the Australian Men's Barber Awards. Our team specialises in both Asian and Western hairstyles, and we genuinely strive to deliver the best experience. Come and feel the difference yourself!

Can I walk in without a booking?

We primarily operate on appointments, so walk-ins aren't guaranteed. If we have availability on the day, we'll always do our best to fit you in — but to avoid disappointment, booking ahead is strongly recommended, especially on weekends.

Do you charge extra on weekends or public holidays?

Yes — a 10% surcharge applies on weekends, and a 15% surcharge applies on public holidays. These are reflected at checkout when booking.

Can you cut Asian hair?

Absolutely. Our team has extensive experience with Asian hair textures and styles. Whether you're after a clean skin fade, a textured crop, or a full style transformation, we know how Asian hair moves, sits, and behaves — and how to get the best out of it.

Can I request a specific barber?

Absolutely, you can select the barber of your choice. Each member of our team brings their own style and strengths, and every cut at Ikigai is held to the same standard of precision and care.

How often should I get a haircut?

For most men, every 3–4 weeks keeps a fade or short style looking sharp. If you're wearing a longer or more relaxed cut, you can stretch it to 6–8 weeks. Not sure what works for your style? Ask your barber at your next visit — they'll give you an honest recommendation based on how your hair grows and the look you're maintaining.

How long does a men's haircut take?

Most haircuts are done within 45 minutes. If you're going for a scissors cut, a more complex style, or adding a beard service, allow closer to an hour. We never rush, and we respect your time.
